The problem with FAITH

Here's a little snippet from the November 17 edition of Salem Radio Network's Janet Parshall's America and John Gibson from FauxNews about this bogus "War on Christianity":

PARSHALL: And number two, I have to tell you, I don't know when they held this election and decided that tolerance was a transcendent value. I serve a god who, with a finger of fire, wrote, he will have no other gods before him. And he doesn't tolerate sin, which is why he sent his son to the cross, but all of a sudden now, we jump up and down and celebrate the idea of tolerance. I think tolerance means accommodation, but it doesn't necessarily mean acquiescence or wholehearted acceptance.

GIBSON: No, no, no. If you figure that -- listen, we get a little theological here, and it's probably a bit over my head, but I would think if somebody is going to be -- have to answer for following the wrong religion, they're not going to have to answer to me. We know who they're going to have to answer to.

This is the problem with people of faith. Faith asks you to believe something that is not provable or verifiable. You just have to accept it on face value. Whether it is right or wrong is in the eye of the beholder. I think a large portion of the problems facing the world today is because people's faith spills out into the public sector. God is no longer a private thing between you and Him (Her or Whatever FSM you believe in) but something to guide your life by. You see, the people who flew into the Twin Towers were people of faith too. Strong, convicting faith- so much so that they gave their lives for it. Totally... absolutely... sickeningly WRONG but that's what they believed.

So here we have Johnny boy and another Christopath whining about how they're being persecuted. What utter nonsense- did somebody nail you to a cross, John? No, how 'bout stoning you? There are people being persecuted out there, right this minute, right now. They just don't belong to the same faith as you. Pssst John, we're the ones doing the persection & torture.

What's so dangerously wrong with faith is one actually believes what they're doing is right, despite how it looks to others. There isn't a war against Christmas or Christians. In fact, the opposite is happening. Christians are trying to impose their will on the rest of the world. It's their job, according to the Bible. If you want to try and convince me of your God, that's fine with me (all you have to do is prove it) - just don't try and IMPOSE it on me. That's what the Constitution is all about. Tolerance..... not imposition and today's wingnuts can't recognize the difference.

I'm actually glad Americans don't have more faith. That's why the direction these Dobsonites are trying to take us is soooo very dangerous. Today's christianity is more watered down than the drinks in a Costa Rican brothel. And that's a good thing. Sometimes, I find myself having to point out to certain halfwits what their Bible actually says (usually because they've never actually read the thing through). If the Bible is unerring and infallable and absolute truth, then true believers are required to do all sorts of despicable things. A quick read through Deuteronomy would land a true person of faith in jail if they acted on some of those things. Yes, I know the New Testament supercedes the OT but there's plenty of things wrong there as well.

So John, it is over your head, and if you think I'm following the wrong religion (which happpens to be the only true religion in my book, a faith I'm happy to defend; ProvenVerifiableFactBasedReality) then put your so-called tolerance into action and ShutTheFuckUp. I want all people of faith, all of you, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, whatever to act like you got some smarts and keep your extreme, wacko myths in check. Take a step back and look at what you're trying to get people to believe in...
Seventy two virgins in Paradise
Imaculate conception
Walking on water
5,000 year old Earth
Sacred cows
.....and on and on.....

People actually believe this stupid shit and what's more they are not only willing to die for it, they're willing to kill for it as well.

FWIW, the problem is not with Christianity and I'd bet not Muslim or Raelian either. The Bible says nothing about going out and forcing people to ones belief. Rather, we are "the salt and the light". Neither changes anything materially. If a would be Christian comes away with anything from the Bible, it should be "Love God with all your heart, soul and mind and love thy neighbor as you love yourself". That's hardly evidenced by blowing the s&*t out of a country half a world away and killing/maiming hundreds of thousands of innocents to get a card decks worth of bad guys (the party line... I know it's the oil we want). The problem is and always has been "the love of money"(Mo money). Organized religion wants mo money, so they need mo people. Dubya and crew want mo money so they need mo oil. They combime forces and end up killing people in the name of Jesus for mo money, and the trailer trash that thinks they are Republican Christians support it. It's disgusting. It's evil at its source, but it is not Christian.

Net-net, you all believe what you want and I'll do the same. That's the way the God AND the forefathers wanted it. Just please understand that we're living through the madness of man, not the will of God.

I went to a Catholic school, and was taught that Jesus died on the cross for the sins of mankind, not for his own sins which is what this woman is implying in the above statement. Also, Jesus did teach about tolerance and understanding. We're supposed to love thy neighbor, there's no exception to that rule in the book I read. It doesn't say love thy neighbor unless they're not Christian, or to kill them if they don't worship just like you do.
To me, there is no difference between religious extremists. Those who believe so strongly that they have a divine right to kill or injure anyone who doesn't believe the same way they do should be locked up in mental hospitals for the nutcases they are.

I will agree with everything said here so far. I won't debate the religious aspects other than to repeat what stupid git said "When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours". That debate is a lot like competing in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still a retard. I used to be an ardent believer once, but after putting christianity through the same tests I used to reject all the other religions, I came to the conclusion that it too fails scrutiny. Unfortunately, the posts above are the exception and the vast majority of christians are hypocrites and support "the madness of man, not the will of God." Atheists are ridiculed daily in this country and unfortunately "christians" are the ones doing it.
